Group Vice President, President of Morgan Olson
Mike Ownbey is President and Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Olson, an OEM in Sturgis, Michigan. Mike has managed other companies within J.B. Poindexter & Co. and was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Specialty Vehicle Group, President and Chief Operating Officer of Federal Coach Company, and Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Coach Company. Prior to joining Morgan Olson, Mike held executive positions with Honda Motor Company’s largest subsidiary, Yachiyo Industries. As Vice President of Operations, he was responsible for the North American production of seven plants specializing in automotive stamping, including large structural components, welding and assembly, sun roofs, repair parts, injection molding and plastic parts, blow molding and plastic fuel tanks, as well as automotive accessories.
During his Honda assignment, Mike also managed “greenfield” startups of stamping plants and plastic fuel tank plants. His management experience extends to all areas of vehicle manufacturing, including the production of metal stampings and frame assemblies. Mike’s particular area of expertise is operational management, quality, and cost control. He has instituted Lean Manufacturing principles at Morgan Olson, resulting in improved manufacturing performance, on-time delivery, cost control and higher quality products. Mike opened a new OEM manufacturing plant in Loudon, Tennessee in 2015-2016. He is a retired U.S. Army Officer having commanded various units at company and battalion levels. He worked extensively in research, development and manufacturing during several assignments with U.S. Army Missile Command and U.S. Army Missile and Munitions Center and School with his last assignment serving as Director of Logistics of the 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
